Renewable Paints

Renewable chemicals deviating from oil and sourced from plants is nothing new. Throughout history mankind has survived through the test of times from nature that ultimately is sourced from the sun. This "nature" comes in various forms, such as oil, plants, minerals etc. We started off using animals for our transport system and later moved to coals, oils, and now we are turning to electricity which harnesses the energy of the sun itself.

The paint industry started in the same way. It is no surprise that paints can be made entirely from plants. Hermann Fischer, a chemist that founded a chemical company using plants and minerals has long used "natural" source for its paint products. Basic recipes for natural paint can be made using mixture of cornstarch, water, soap flakes melted with boiling water and natural homemade dye for the colour.

Fischer's yellow paint for example uses pigment extract from reseda plant and aluminum oxide. As the world is moving towards personalize products and green agenda is becoming a global awareness, it is expected that more people will be attracted towards "natural" products.

Factories and manufacturers will be able to produce these products with great personalization but at fraction of costs through next wave of manufacturing technologies.
